cobaltnine: cobaltnine name and retro-looking shapes (ifcomp2008)

I see a trend so far. I see a bunch of people writing games that have to do with their real life jobs. There's a problem here; one needs to be a very excellent writer in order to make your crappy job interesting.

Recess at Last is the first game I've played in the comp this year that wasn't broken. (Someone else found a bug later, but I didn't run into it.) It's finishable without finishing all the quests. An unusual item - a worksheet that needs to be filled in - gives you the command to use so you're not sitting there figuring out how to use it, at least after the first attempt I tried. I can, thank you very much, 'x' things in order to interact with them. I can carry oodles. There are actually two ways to solve the main puzzle.

My biggest problem is that I just don't care about the game. I tried helping an NPC and there was no point. There are NPCs that don't seem to do anything but be scenery. There's no advantage to solving the main puzzle one way or the other.

Rating: Flexy-4. It might go up, but there's just so little here. What is here is fine; I just don't care about the plot or the characters or anything. It might go up to 5 as I think one of the previous games I reviewed was a solid 4, and this one isn't broken, so it might get a 5, but frankly: meh.
