This is the first night since the cold snap that it has been over 55 deg F (that's 12.7 for the continentals) in the apartment. The cold seems to be descending again, so I better post and get the blankets out again.
Quick Review: I like this game, but it's broken.
There might be some bits where the author is trying a bit too hard, but I rather liked the humor and annoyed my roommate by reading bits of it out loud. The puzzles seem OK, although there is enough nonsensical use of certain objects - making the rubbing was, let's admit it, just programmed wrong - but there's a bigger issue here:
In the about (which is tricky to get to; I only got it by accident,) the author admits it is buggy.
Why do people submit unfinished games? Give it another few months, let it sit in the spring, test it out again in the summer, and submit next year. There were pointless typos and bits where the italics didn't revert properly that could be more easily fixed; the persistence of the professor and the bugginess of the chair and the red book are harder to fix, but really should be.
This game is now #1 in number of restores and restarts: thanks for the instakills.
And no, I couldn't get in the damn safe or figure out how to do anything but:
kill myself (four different ways, in fact)
kill the professor,
or have him leave in a huff.
At least I got downstairs.
Final Rating: I have to think about it. Probably 4. It's pretty buggy. I want to give it a 5 because it amuses me, but the more I think about how much testing could have helped this, the more I'm a bit cranky about it.
